Scotland Yard

Scotland Yard was the base of the Metropolitan Police Service in London. Its full name was New Scotland Yard, but it was rarely referred to as such. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Witch Mark) The name was often used as a metonym for the service. (PROSE: The Banquo Legacy) This meant that introducing oneself to be "Scotland Yard" actually referred to an officer of the Met. (COMIC: The Curious Tale of Spring-Heeled Jack) In the 22nd century, Scotland Yard was known as New New Scotland Yard. (COMIC: Pawns of the Zenith)

History[]

In the 1890s, Henry Gordon Jago claimed that he and Professor George Litefoot solved more crimes than all of the inspectors in Scotland Yard put together. (AUDIO: Litefoot and Sanders)

In the late 19th century, Inspector Cotton of Scotland Yard required the assistance of Vastra and Jenny Flint regarding an incident in Millwall. (AUDIO: The Cars That Ate London!)

In 1966, Dodo Chaplet described what would happen if a policeman entered the TARDIS as "Scotland Yard whipped off into time and space." A few days later on 20 July, Detective Inspector Crossland of Scotland Yard investigated Chameleon Tours with the Second Doctor following the murder of his colleague, police detective Gascoigne. (TV: The Faceless Ones)

As an alias for the Doctor[]

The Fourth Doctor claimed to Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot two to be an amateur investigator called in by Scotland Yard. (TV: The Talons of Weng-Chiang)

In 1926, the Tenth Doctor claimed to Agatha Christie to be "Chief Inspector Smith of Scotland Yard", with Donna Noble as "the plucky young girl who helps [him] out", following the murder of Professor Gerald Peach at Eddison Manor. (TV: The Unicorn and the Wasp)

The Twelfth Doctor attempted this alias, but was not generally successful; in 1651, the Twelfth Doctor pretended to be an agent of Scotland Yard, until he realised it hadn't been founded yet, (TV: The Woman Who Lived) and in the 2010s, the Twelfth Doctor claimed to Lucy Fletcher to be "Doctor Dan Dangerous from Scotland Yard, Scotland", which she knew was false. (TV: The Return of Doctor Mysterio)
