Shug was apparently Jason Kane's pet. However, in actuality he was the Mighty Leader of All Skrak who pretended to be a being of limited intelligence to trick Kane until he could return to Moriel and reunite with the rest of the Shrak. He was killed by one of his malfunctioning automations. (PROSE: Death and Diplomacy)

History[]

Shug was stranded on Earth after unknowingly being usurped by another Skrak - a brood-hatchling known as Gleka. By 24 December 1996, Shug had created a transmat beam which would allow himself to be transported to t'Kao in the Dagellan Cluster. The beam inadvertently caught Jason Kane in its range and the pair were transported to t'Kao together. Jason managed to get a lift off world on an ore processor, taking Shug along with him as a pet and the pair spent years travelling around the Cluster in a second-hand ship that Jason had acquired. Although, Jason and Shug tended to stay out of each other's way due to Shug's aggressive nature and Shug spent most of his time foraging to create a large nest of electrical wires and other bits of machinery.

Fifteen years after arriving in the Cluster, Jason encountered Bernice Summerfield on Jaris. Together they ended up on Makrath where they had sex before Jason left her behind on Kalas. When Jason had a change of heart and returned to Kalas for Benny, he found her being menaced by several automations which he managed to stop by crashing his ship on them. It was at this point that Shug decided to reveal his true nature - as he was unable to stand Jason and Benny's relationship woes any further - and took the pair hostage. Shug took them to Moriel where he reunited with the rest of his kind and put his plan to become the ruler of the Cluster into action by inviting the leaders of Saloi, Dakhaari and Czhan to attend peace talks before taking them hostage and attempting to assassinate them.

Gleka soon revealed himself to be a usurper and opposed Shug's leadership, although he was swiftly defeated when Shug sent him plummeting to his death through a trap door onto a bed of jagged spikes. However, Shug too was easily defeated when one of his automations - the same that had attacked Benny on Kalas - malfunctioned and killed him. (PROSE: Death and Diplomacy)
