Simon Williams played Group Captain Ian Gilmore in the Doctor Who television story Remembrance of the Daleks and reprised his role in the Big Finish spin-off series Counter-Measures and 1963: The Assassination Games. He also voiced Paul Addison and Shara in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story Nekromanteia, the Guardian in The Guardians of Prophecy and Lord Ruthven in the Big Finish Jago & Litefoot audio story The Ruthven Inheritance.

He is the husband of Lucy Fleming, the father of Tam Williams and the former brother-in-law of both Kate O'Mara and Nigel Havers.

On the DVD audio commentary for Remembrance of the Daleks, Sophie Aldred mentions that she was especially nervous to be working with Williams because she used to fancy him when he appeared in Upstairs, Downstairs.
