The Summerfield family was a storied one. Notable members included Bernice Summerfield. Their family tree, compiling recorded history from the 20th century to the 26th century, was consulted by Christine Summerfield. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

History[]

Jonah Summerfield I, the earliest known ancestor of Bernice Summerfield, was born in 1930. When he was eighteen, he got a woman pregnant, and she gave birth to his son Jonah Summerfield II. The elder Jonah was called up for national service in the 1950s. (PROSE: Dead Romance) A Captain Summerfield served as Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart's aide on his first day of service as Brigadier at his new HQ; in the original track of Time, he served as the Brigadier's aide for fifteen years, but due to Deller's interference he was instead murdered that very day. (AUDIO: Memories of Tomorrow)

In 1970, Jonah Summerfield II had a son whom he named Valentine Summerfield. Christine Summerfield suspected that he named Valentine after the main character in the popular novel Stranger in a Strange Land. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Jonah Summerfield I died in an industrial accident in 1975. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

In 1990, Valentine had a son whom he named Benedict, the first Summerfield to live in the space age. Benedict spent his life dealing drugs. He travelled across the world "getting off with as many women as he could along the way". In 2007, one of these women gave birth to a boy she named Jason Summerfield, despite Benedict himself having left her before her son was born. Since Benedict was a criminal, the family tree did not say much about him. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Throughout his entire life, Jason Summerfield never left England. Instead, he stayed indoors, watched television, and lived off of welfare cheques. In 2039, he had a son whom he named Jubilation Summerfield. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Jubilation Constantine Summerfield was the first Summerfield to leave Earth full-time, having left with his wife to set up a farm on one of the outer planets in the Solar System. They had three children. The child that was born in 2076 was named Benedict Summerfield II after Jubilation's grandfather. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

At a young age, Benedict became a psychic assassin under the alias "the Hyena". In 2097, he had a son named Marshal Summerfield I. He also had another child around this time. In 2101, he was arrested for his crimes at the age of 25. By this time he had assassinated 63 people. At his trial, it was discovered that he had altered his ID records at least twice. After his trial, he was executed. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Jubilation Summerfield died in 2106. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

After being "taken away from his father's criminal empire", Marshal Summerfield I lived a long and happy life. He extended his life with drugs and had children "left, right, and centre". In 2165, he had one of his last children: Dylan Summerfield I. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Dylan Summerfield lived a bohemian lifestyle and never got married. Because of this, not much of his life details were recorded. In 2188, one of his "space-hippie girlfriends" gave birth to a daughter, Candice Summerfield. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

In the early 23rd century, Candice Summerfield worked as a reporter for an interplanetary television channel. When she married, she had her husband change his name to Summerfield. In 2214, she gave birth to Benedict Summerfield III. Ultimately, Candice's career ended when she began getting drugs from a drug cartel she was investigating for television. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

At a young age Benedict III rebelled against his mother and would later blame her for all his problems. He became a police officer on the colony planet Vandor Secunda and had two children: Marshal and Christine. He committed suicide before he was thirty. In his suicide note he ordered that his son be sent to military college "so he could learn some proper discipline". (PROSE: Dead Romance)

As per his late father's will, Marshal II attended Caprisi Military Academy and went on to become its director. He retained this role for most of the late 23rd century. He passed on the position to his son Marshal Summerfield III. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

During his time as director, Marshal III began building up a clique known as the Wayfinder Order in Caprisi Academy. In the late 23rd century, Marshal III had a son whom he named Marshal Summerfield IV. He passed on the position as director of Caprisi Military Academy to Marshal IV. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

In 2318, Marshal IV had a son whom he named Marshal Summerfield V. By this time, Marshal IV had ensured that the Wayfinder Order - of which he was a part of - was an established part of Caprisi academy. The order would later be famous for its "right-wing views and kinky rituals". Before his death, Marshal IV passed on the position as director of Caprisi Military Academy to Marshal V, who would be the final Summerfield to serve in this position. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

In 2344, Marshal V had his only child: a girl he named Cathy Summerfield. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

When she turned sixteen in 2360, Cathy announced that she was going to become an androgyne, something which was popular at the time. They underwent an operation and changed their name to Cathal. Their father was embarrassed by this, and in 2362 he died "of a broken heart". (PROSE: Dead Romance)

In 2363, after hermaphroditism went out of fashion, Cathal was forced to make some quick money by giving their body to a medical experiment. In the 2360s, the Earth Empire wanted to find a way to induce super-fertility to populate colony planets. Cathal Summerfield volunteered to be part of the experiments, and in 2363 gave birth to Benedict Summerfield IV in a laboratory.

Benedict IV survived to be a toddler, and in 2365, he gave birth to Isaac Summerfield I. He died shortly afterwards.

Isaac spent most of his life "being shunted from one space-age housing project to another". In 2389, Isaac and his lover had a child. In an attempt to bring back his family's "glorious military past", Isaac named the child Marshal Summerfield VI. Before the year ended, Isaac gave his son to the Earth military. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Despite his father's ambitions, Marshal VI grew up to be a "pretty mediocre" soldier who "didn't do much at all" in the army's civil service. In the early 25th century, Marshal had a son he named Dylan Summerfield II, in the hope that he would gravitate towards a bohemian life. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Dylan II had multiple children, one of whom, named Jonah Summerfield III after his earliest known ancestors, as born to a woman who - according to late 26th century records - may not have been human. In 2455, it was discovered that Dylan was sleeping with non-humans and he was arrested, with Jonah being separated from his father. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

When he grew up, Jonah III joined Spacefleet. He became an officer and gained numerous medals during his service. Sometime during his life, Jonah had a son whom he named Isaac Summerfield after his great-grandfather. (PROSE: Dead Romance)

Following his father's footsteps, Isaac II joined Spacefleet where he became an admiral, something that his father never achieved. (PROSE: Dead Romance) On 21 June 2540, Isaac had his only child: Bernice Surprise Summerfield. (AUDIO: Just War)

In 2543, Admiral Summerfield supposedly deserted during a space battle against the Daleks in which he disappeared. Most assumed he had died in the battle. (PROSE: Love and War); his ship, the Tisiphone, disappeared towards the end of the battle and was never seen again. The Tisiphone had, in fact, survived — it had fallen into a rift in space-time and was transported, along with its surviving crew, to Earth space in November 1963. (PROSE: Return of the Living Dad)

A noted archaeologist, Bernice travelled with the Seventh Doctor for a considerable amount of time, becoming one of the Doctor's longest serving companions. (PROSE: Human Nature) Eventually, Benny left the Doctor to marry Jason Kane, (PROSE: Happy Endings) though they would ultimately divorce. (PROSE: Eternity Weeps)

In 2600, Bernice gave birth to her son Peter Summerfield, a human-Killoran hybrid whom she had conceived with Adrian Wall. (PROSE: The Glass Prison)
