Invalidity[]

This story is invalid because it uses the original pre-Doctor Who version of Iris Wildthyme. CoT ? 04:54, December 12, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for that information! Shambala108 05:24, December 12, 2016 (UTC)
Erm...what? How is it invalid because of that? Shouldn't it meet our four little rules? --Pluto2 (talk) 05:41, December 14, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, how does that make it invalid? It's the same incarnation of Iris as in the Phoenix Court books, yes, but the incarnation isn't invalid. Fwhiffahder 01:35, December 20, 2016 (UTC)
How is this story invalid, could you elaborate for me COT? - Sir DENCH-and-PALMER 17:35, December 26, 2016 (UTC)

That's not a real reason to make something invalid. OS25 (Talk) 23:05, March 8, 2017 (UTC)

Why is this invalid?[]

Hello, I just want to know why this story is invalid. 86.152.200.56talk to me 13:35, August 18, 2017 (UTC)

Yes, this does seem strange. I haven't read the story, but to the best of my knowledge, we haven't had an inclusion or exclusion debate. Can the people who put on the invalid tag explain their reasoning? Never Forget The Day The 456 Arrived 14:13, May 26, 2020 (UTC)
Oof, looking back at the top of this talk page and thinking, "Did I do that?" Presumably, I was explaining the reasoning behind this being invalid... Something about the "Phoenix Court universe" being ruled in Forum:Iris Wildthyme: should she stay or should she go? to be separate from the "Doctor Who Universe"... Anyway, um, I think the lines of reasoning which rule this invalid are incompatible (or unable to vibe with or understand) the works of Paul Magrs. Magrs loves continuity, but not in the same way that the people who founded the rules of this wiki seemed to think of continuity. The thing with Iris Wildthyme is that nothing with her is intended to be "non-canon". For what it's worth, I made a page for Phoenix Court, because that's a concept which has appeared in an official Doctor Who story. CoT ? 17:43, May 27, 2020 (UTC)

Let's follow Thread:212365 on this one:

  1. Is there a clear connection to establish this is meant to be DWU?
  2. Does it stand on its own? (Is prior knowledge of invalid stories necessary to know what's going on?)
  3. Does the problem/situation that invalidated the series of stories which is referenced also apply to this work?

# Point one - definitely DWU, as many stories acknowledge the "lesbian novelist" origin of Iris. It's as much a part of her as her origins on Gallifrey or the Obverse.
# Point two - Like most of Magrs work, prerequisites aren't necessary, but they add more to the story if you've read them.
# Point three - I believe that the only reason the Phoenix Court books aren't covered is because they were written prior to Iris' DWU introduction in Old Flames.

And to add to point one, it's not that the incarnation is invalid, it's just that those novels were deemed non-DWU, not fhe incarnation. Epsilon (Contact me) 11:58, October 3, 2020 (UTC)
Alright. From where I'm standing, this looks like a misfiled relic of the days of canon — when we had to act as though Phoenix Court "didn't exist in the DWU" to allow ourselves not to cover it. But that's not why we don't cover Phoenix Court. We don't cover Phoenix Court because as far as any incusion debates thus far have divined, it didn't have the license to a preexisting DWU concept at the time of release.
Thread:212365 combined with the findings of the original Forum:Iris Wildthyme: should she stay or should she go? apply: this is after Iris was established as a DWU character, so the rationale for Phoenix Court’s non-coverage does not apply, so this has no particular reason to be invalid.
