Another topic to discuss... I notice on Journalist, there is the category "Journalists." Therefore, would "Teachers" be acceptable here? But this is a job description, so wouldn't it not be?--Rebazim ☎ 20:18, June 4, 2014 (UTC)
Definition[]
Isn't what a teacher does a bit obvious? Leaving aside the fact that I think that it is taking the "no real world" policy so far as to make it ridiculous, we saw teachers at work in An Unearthly Child, School Reunion, Human Nature, The Family of Blood, most episodes of Series 8, etc. and that's just on television. --GusF ☎ 13:53, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
- What are you proposing? Get rid of the lead? Expand on it?
- The trouble with basic real world terms like this one is that we need an in-universe definition in order to write a lead (which is required for all articles), but most of these kinds of words don't have in-universe definitions. I think this is one of the better leads that I've seen for this kind of article; some of them are really weak. Shambala108 ☎ 14:18, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
- I thought that the lead was fine the way that it was but I don't think that it needed a source since it is just so obvious, even if we limit ourselves to depictions of teaching in-universe. Skittles the hog's new lead is a good compromise though as it is not the sort of thing that really needs citation in my view. --GusF ☎ 14:34, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
- Not only do I understand your point, but I agree with it. It would be nice to use basic definitions for the leads without having to dig for an in-universe source. However, if we allow something like that, it would then encourage inexperienced users to add more and more real world creep. So we are pretty much reduced to a couple of options: very basic "Broccoli was a foot item" or in-universe definitions like the one at Vegetable. Shambala108 ☎ 17:18, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
