This article needs a big cleanup.

The section specifically about Wikia-the-page-skin needs to be updated to reflect how it is operated in 2022.

These problems might be so great that the article's factual accuracy has been compromised. Talk about it here or check the revision history or Manual of Style for more information.

For clarity, it's important for us to all be on the same page when we speak of things at Fandom.

In late 2016, Wikia went through a major rebrand, and was from then on known as Fandom. At the same time, a number of subtle changes happened to the nomenclature of various things we talk about on a regular basis. To avoid confusing our fellow users, it's important to use our words to indicate the same things. Here, then, is a list of common terms used to speak of things here at Fandom.

Term Meaning Better term
Fandom (formerly Wikia) The company that this wiki and many others is hosted by Fandom is the conventional name for the company, and Wikia has faded into irrelevancy
Wikia The skin (page design) that you're looking at right now It's clearer to use the term "FandomDesktop" when you intend to talk about the skin, as that has no other meaning on this network
wikia Though this sometimes, in some languages, was used to mean "wiki" in the past, it has no real meaning. If you mean to talk about the concept of a Fandom wiki or community, it is preferred to use the lower-cased "community" or "wiki" instead
wiki The general concept of an online, hyperlink-using, editable encyclopaedia. This is a broad and uncopyrighted term which should not be confused with the old Wikia brand name, nor the Wiki (in-context, ours). Wikipedia, Tardis Wiki, and a random non-Fandom-hosted Doctor Who fanfiction database might all be "wikis". If referring to our wiki in particular in contexts where this might cause confusion, prefer "this wiki", "our wiki" or "the Wiki" to "the wiki".
fandom.com Base domain for all Fandom wikis This is rarely needed in conversations, as it's understood all Fandom traffic happens on fandom.com, hence slogans such as "Tardis is a Fandom TV Community"
Tardis Wiki As of 2024, the official full name of our wiki The preferred way of referring to the present wiki, although you can also use "Tardis" for short. "Tardis Wiki" is preferred to "the Tardis Wiki".
The Wiki An informal way of referring to our wiki An informal usage following the Doctor Who tradition of meaningful definitive article; i.e., much as there are many doctors but only one "Doctor", there are many wikis, but (as far as Doctor Who is considered) we are the Wiki. Should not be confused with the improper practice of referring to Wikipedia as "Wiki" (sans "the").

Admin may need to run bot sweeps to make sure that older writings conform to the new standards. One has already been performed in the Tardis namespace and in the policy category. It's possible, but by no means certain, that forum areas will have to be scrubbed, as well.
