Tardis:Plagiarism

From TARDIS Index File, the free Doctor Who reference.

(Important: This is currently only a draft policy. Please feel free to expand upon this article, and also to discuss the issue on Tardis_talk:Plagiarism)

Plagiarism is sometimes difficult to define in a project such as a wikia, however the general standard is if it's obvious to another reader that it has been copied directly from another source then it is plagiarism. The one exception is Wikipedia which allows for copying of information (in which case a Template:Wikipedia is used) when there is any mass copying of information from Wikipedia.

However as we are attempting to build a separate site from Wikipedia, mass copying from Wikipedia is discouraged.

[edit] How to avoid plagiarism

  • "Facts are free, specific wording isn't", No one owns a fact, almost all information on a wiki is taken from secondary sources, the line is crossed when you copy the specific words and sentences from the original source.
  • Show your sources so that other readers can verify your information. (see The Dark Dimension for example) They should be referenced and placed under a 'Footnotes' section.
