The Airzone Solution was a direct-to-video independent film production by BBV released in 1993. The film is not related to Doctor Who in any way, but is notable in that it featured a large number of Doctor Who alumni as cast members (along with an early film appearance by Alan Cumming); the behind the scenes crew included many who were involved with BBV's The Stranger series.

Nicola Bryant and Colin Baker, in a change from their Doctor Who characters, play a romantic couple in this film.
  • The Airzone Solution does not take place in the Doctor Who Universe. Despite this, it had Doctor Who fans as its target audience (and producers) and unofficially celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of the series by bringing together every living actor who had played the Doctor on television, with the exception of Tom Baker.
  • Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant play lovers in this film, and includes a PG-rated love scene between them, the first and, until 2009, only known film or TV scene involving a Doctor Who lead actor and a companion actress. In 2009, Matt Smith was cast as the Eleventh Doctor, who had previously starred in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, involving a sex scene with Billie Piper, who played Ninth and Tenth Doctor companion Rose Tyler.
  • Writer Nicholas Briggs, who also played a small role in the film, was very active in helping keep Doctor Who alive during the 1989-2005 "interregnum" with his involvement in productions such as this and The Stranger, and later writing and directing numerous Big Finish audio productions. Since 2005 he has been a regular contributor to the revived TV series, providing voiceovers for many of the iconic aliens appearing in the series, including the Daleks and Cybermen.
  • Gary Russell, who also plays a small role in this films, was also a very active supporter of Doctor Who during the gap years, writing novels and contributing to other productions. He later became a script editor with the revived series, directed the animated serial The Infinite Quest, and wrote novelisations of two The Sarah Jane Adventures episodes.
  • Once again, as she did in the early BBV films and in Doctor Who, Bryant plays a character with the surname Brown.
  • Although not intended to be part of the universe of either Doctor Who nor The Stranger, both franchises have established precedent (Human Nature and Turn Left, for example, for Doctor Who; In Memory Alone for The Stranger) in which circumstances could exist to allow this storyline to exist within either universe, owing to alternate timelines, altered memories, chameleon arch, etc. REF: Howe's Transcendental Toybox lists The Airzone Solution as an extension of The Stranger series, but this may be an error.
