- This novelisation is based on the original television serial (DW): Revenge of the Cybermen which was shown from 19th April 1975 and written by Gerry Davis
- The first edition gives the title on the cover as Doctor Who - The Revenge of the Cybermen, but as Doctor Who and the Revenge of the Cybermen on the inside front page. Later editions use the latter title on the cover.
- The cover and information shown on the right is for the original Target novel and featured the artwork of Chris Achilleos. (See below for information on other UK and international editions which published with a different cover).

A mysterious plague strikes Space Beacon Nerva, killing its victims within minutes. When DOCTOR WHO lands, only four humans remain alive.
