Tiger Maratha was a 24th century archaeologist and a companion of the Fourth Doctor.

Biography[]

Adventures with the Doctor[]

12th Doctor Comics Tiger Martha 4th Doctor

The Fourth Doctor with Tiger. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)

After meeting the Fourth Doctor, Tiger had a couple of trips with him, where the two fought the Deathlings at Angkor Wat. The adventure involved much running. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)

Family man and life on Earth[]

Tiger eventually decided to end his adventures with the Doctor to live on Earth with his wife and daughter, Priyanka. He continued to admire the Doctor, and told Priyanka that he would always be there for them if they needed him.

His wife was killed in the Rama-16 space disaster. After that he buried himself in the relics of the past. He also did not approve of Priyanka training to become a space pilot and did not speak with her too often. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)

Involvement with Scindias[]

The Scindia family offered Tiger unlimited funding to retrieve the four swords of Kali, whom he knew as the Hindu goddess of death and destruction, an offer he could not refuse. Chandra Scindia provided him with a proof that Kali actually existed and was a being of immense power. When she was destroyed, her swords were secreted away from mankind in hidden temples. Tiger enjoyed the opportunity to do field research as it reminded him of his travels with the Doctor. Using the skills acquired during his time aboard the TARDIS, he succeeded in finding the coordinates of all four temples and retrieving three of the four swords when he started questioning the motives of the Scindias. When he arrived at the fourth temple, it was in ruins, the sword was gone (unknown to Tiger, it was retrieved by the Twelfth Doctor), and corpses of Aamir and Karisma Scindia in their monstrous forms, which Tiger could not recognise, were lying on the floor. The Scindias did not believe him and started making threats. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)

Hidden holo-message[]

Before contacting the Doctor for help, Tiger recorded a holo-message and hid it behind a photo of him with the Fourth Doctor. This message explained his situation, so that the Doctor could be informed in the event of his death. Tiger also used this recording to deliver one final message to Priyanka, apologising for not supporting her dream of becoming an astronaut and telling her to chase the brightest stars. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)

Death[]

In 2314, Tiger lived in an apartment on the 12th floor with a balcony overlooking Mumbai. He called the TARDIS telephone and asked the Twelfth Doctor for help. Immediately after the call and before the TARDIS materialised on his balcony, Tiger was killed and completely drained of life by Thuggee sent by the Scindia family. His desiccated body was found first by the Doctor and Clara Oswald and then by his daughter. Thinking that he was hiding the fourth sword, the Scindias sent two Mumbai police officers to his apartment to try and retrieve the sword. (COMIC: The Swords of Kali)
