Time & Time Again was a one-issue comic story in Doctor Who Magazine #207 which celebrated the 30th anniversary of Doctor Who. When published, it was a significant, widely publicised "event". At ten pages, it was longer than the then-standard comic in DWM, and was also originally printed in colour — something that did not regularly occur in DWM until the late 1990s.
Narratively, Time was a celebratory multi-Doctor story, whose panels were filled with many visual references to the past, much like The Five Doctors. As with the earlier Terrance Dicks script, the narrative was less involved in plot and character, and primarily about building a structure that allowed meetings between the various Doctors.
The story took place almost exclusively in an alternate timeline in which the First Doctor had been prevented from leaving Gallifrey by the Black Guardian. However, the story ends back in the "normal" universe, with what is ostensibly a genuine account of the First Doctor and Susan's original departure from Gallifrey. It was the only time in which the event has been depicted in a visual medium, until the series 7 episode The Name of the Doctor.
The comic's story featured the first visual appearance of the First Doctor and Susan leaving Gallifrey together in the TARDIS for the first time. This event would finally be glimpsed as on television screens in TV: The Name of the Doctor.
Adric's clothing is erroneous, as he did not change into it until after the Doctor had finished playing cricket in TV: Black Orchid.
For the purposes of this list, an "Ice Warrior story" is one in which one living, authentic Ice Warrior plays a part within the confines of the story, outside of flashbacks to previous stories and cliffhangers that lead into the following story.
For the purposes of this list, a "Sontaran story" is one in which one living, authentic Sontaran plays a part within the confines of the story, outside of flashbacks to previous stories and cliffhangers that lead into the following story. For this reason, stories such as The Halloween Apocalypse and Survivors of the Flux are not counted due to the Sontarans' appearance being defined by their importance to following stories. Stories like The End of Time and The Time of the Doctor are also not included due to the Sontarans' appearance being no consequence to the plot of the story. Stories featuring Strax of the Paternoster Gang are only included on the Paternoster Gang story template.
For the purposes of this list, a "Homo Reptilian story" is one in which one living, authentic Silurian or Sea Devil plays a part within the confines of the story, outside of flashbacks to previous stories and cliffhangers that lead into the following story. Stories like Frontier in Space, The Pandorica Opens and The Wedding of River Song are also not included due to Homo Reptilians' cameos being of little consequence to the plot of the story. Stories featuring MadamVastra of the Paternoster Gang are only included on the Paternoster Gang story template.
For the purposes of this list, a "Cyberman story" is one in which one living, authentic Cyberman plays a part within the confines of the story, outside of flashbacks to previous stories and cliffhangers that lead into the following story. For this reason, stories such as Dalek are absent due to only featuring deceased Cybermen on display. Stories like Carnival of Monsters, A Good Man Goes to War and The Vanquishers are also not included due to the Cybermen's appearance being of little consequence to the plot of the story.
