An early title card
A title card is a part of the title sequence which has the episode title — and, where appropriate, episode number — written on it. Throughout much of the history of DWU productions, the episode title has been conveyed through an actual series of photographed cards, but since 1987's Time and the Rani, it has been inserted using computers. However, Doctor Who historians and fans use the term "title card" long after the term was in general use in the entertainment industry. Indeed, during the 1960s and 1970s, Doctor Who title sequences, which always included title cards, were done live in the studio.
Post-1987, of course, title sequences are all done digitally in post-production, and so the term "title card" is no longer strictly accurate. Nevertheless, in homage to the work of the original creators of Doctor Who this wiki maintains the use of the term in collecting titling information from all televisual aspects of the DWU:
