The trial of Morbius, (PROSE: The Legacy of Gallifrey) known on the record as the Trial of the First Renegade, (PROSE: Still Need a Title!) saw the conviction of the renegade Time Lord Morbius, then in his first incarnation for war crimes after his army was defeated by the Time Lords and their allies', thus ending the Civil War. (PROSE: The Legacy of Gallifrey)

Morbius was charged with breaching the non-interference policy, and tried by President Pandak and the High Council. The trial was recorded and transcribed by Benncuiq IV in his essay, The Trial of the First Renegade. (PROSE: Still Need a Title!)

The outcome of the trial was decided in advance, but it still took place for appearances' sake (PROSE: Warmonger) It was staged on Karn, and attended by Maren, leader of the Sisterhood of Karn and an enemy of Morbius, (TV: The Brain of Morbius) though the Sisterhood would rather the Time Lords had held the trial on Gallifrey.

Morbius was already placed in a dispersal chamber before sentence was pronounced. As Lord President Pandad was about to announce the dire penalty, he lost his footing in Karn's treacherous cliffs and fell to his death. In the words of the Scrolls of Gallifrey, "pandemonium" ensued; however, in the confusion, Cardinal Helron, who would succeed the rival Presidents Morbius and Pandad as head of the High Council, managed to action the machine, (PROSE: The Legacy of Gallifrey) and Morbius was seemingly atomised. However, his brain had been removed by Mehendri Solon, allowing him to survive the destruction of his body. (TV: The Brain of Morbius, PROSE: Warmonger)
