Tripod (vehicle)

Tripods were three-legged travel vehicles which were famously used by Martians in H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. (COMIC: Character Assassin, et al.) As noted by the Third Doctor, Wells was "cleverer than he thought" and tripods like those in The War of the Worlds were actually used by some alien species. (PROSE: Verdigris)
