[edit] Notes
- This story was later adapted into the TV story Blink. The character of Sally Sparrow remains, but was changed into an adult. The same premise of communication across time using pre-recorded messages also remains, as does the idea of the Doctor separated from the TARDIS.
- It is the first and, to date, only piece of Doctor Who short fiction to be adapted as an episode (a New Adventures novel and a Big Finish audio drama have also been adapted for TV).
- This is the only officially licensed Ninth Doctor story in which the Doctor is not depicted as travelling with Rose.
[edit] Continuity
- Despite this story was later remade for television, it is still quite easy to place it as happening within the established "canon" without it taking place in an alternate universe. It likely takes place before the Ninth Doctor meets Rose Tyler, as he is without companion. However, in Rose, the Doctor appears not to have noticed his large ears before, placing Rose very soon after his regeneration. The best placement is just after Rose declines to travel in the TARDIS, and before the Doctor returns and mentions it travels in time and space.
